Founded in September 1978, No. 3 Senior Middle School of PZH lies on the Xueyuan Road, the center of PZH city, and covers an area of 130,000 square meters and building area of 55,000 square meters. There are 44 teaching classes available now and about 2,500 students at school. It has a teaching and administrative staff of 268.

   In 1981, it was ratified by the Provincial Education Committee as one of the first 42 Key Middle Schools in Sichuan Province. In 1993, it passed the check of the Provincial Education Committee again, and became one of the first 30 affirmed Key Middle Schools in Sichuan Province. In 2000, the Municipal Government decided to merge PZH Normal School into our school.

   Our school has the top-class teachers in Pan Xi (Panzhihua and Xichang). Among all the 165 teachers, there are 70 senior teachers (42% of the staff). And moreover, we also possess the first-rate teaching installation in our province. Campus net is also in use. In every classroom, there are multi-medium equipments. Such as, computer, TV set, etc. September of 2002, will see the establishment of a standard sports field with 400 meters plastic cement tricks, a standard 50 meters swimming pool with 8 lanes and an indoor basketball court as well. Besides, a library with a collection of 100,000 books is certain to be brought into use by then. At the same time, the students' dormitories will all become apartments with hygienic installation in each room.

   Since it was founded, it has cultivated more than 8,800 senior, junior middle-school graduates, and nearly 6,900 students have gone to colleges. During the 13 years (from 1988 to 2001) in the college entrance examinations, 16 students captured the first in Arts and Science of PZH, 75 students got top marks in each subjects. During the period, the number of the students who passed the Entrance Examination is more than 30% in total of the city each year, and enrolling rate is more than 95%. Graduates extend to all the famous and key universities both at home and abroad, some even find jobs in Europe, America and Japan.

   In all the previous national and provincial competitions of all subjects, our grades are protruding: in 1988, we won the 4^th of the team organization in the Provincial Mathematics Competition; in the Second national English Olympic Competition for Middle School Students in 1995, we captured the outstanding team organization and got the praise of the National Olympic Committee; Chen Han, a student in Grade 91, won the first in the National physics Competition and then joined the Winter Camp of the National Olympics; Hou Zuoliang, a student in Grade 94, won the first in the National Mathematics Olympic Competition for High School Students in Sichuan Province and the first in the Provincial Chemistry Contest, then he joined the 9^th Mathematics Olympic winter Camp of China, he was also chosen as one of the National Training Team which was made up of 21 persons; Xu Hui, a student in Grade 98, won the 3rd in the National Mathematics Contest for High School Students in Sichuan Province, and then joined the 13 ^th Mathematics Olympic Winter Camp of China. Jian Weihua, a student in Grade 2002, won the first in National Physics Contest for High School Students in Sichuan Province, and then he joined the Physics Olympic Winter Camp of China. In sports field, our school has continuously won the first of team total points in track and field sports of PZH, we have gained the middle school students' men and women basketball championships of PZH for years. In 1998, the track and field team of our school represented the City of PZH to participate in the Provincial Middle School Students' Track and Field Sports and captured the 2na of the team total points. In 1999, we got the 5th of team total points at track and field sports in Sichuan Province.

   Now we are concentrating on making our school one of the demonstrating schools in China.
